Mentoring is Crucial!

Mentoring is a crucial leadership skill in order to help others learn and grow and become more effective in the work place and on a personal level. This can be a rewarding experience for both the mentor and the person who is being mentored, by improving communication, leadership and management skills.

Increasing Numbers

An increasing number of organisations now recognise the value of leadership mentoring for developing performance levels of staff. Overcoming barriers which prevent people from reaching and working to their full potential increased staff skills and confidence.

Sharing Knowledge

The mentor will share knowledge, skills and experience with others. Encouraging and motivating, whilst challenging, often with questions to the person who is being mentored. You will become the ‘mentee’s’ confidante and adviser, and you may have to deal with varied issues and concerns.

Great Benefits

Both parties benefit from a mentoring experience and is not the one way experience it used to be. The mentor can derive great benefits to themselves by cascading their own personal skills and experience, as well as gaining confidence.

Confidentiality is of paramount importance. During a mentoring session, discussion on general concepts may move to more personal issues, however confidentiality should be maintained at all times.

Conclusion

Mentoring can be rewarding for both parties, and deciding to be a mentor is a decision that should be taken with commitment and willingness to share skills, experience and be a ‘sounding board’ for your protégé.
