The oldest advertising medium that is proven to work is... outdoor advertising, it generates awareness of your product, service or your company and it provides a high impact / long term message to your audience.

Today’s people, the consumers, spend more time in either their own vehicle or public transport than ever before, travelling greater distances, particularly to work, giving your company a captive audience. Within the last 25 years road traffic has increased by 128% and that leaves outdoor advertising is a pretty powerful medium. Remember that people cannot turn it off or throw it away, they can see it, read it and remember it.

It is often a final reminder of a brand, product or service just before a customer proceeds to make a purchase. It is visible to everyone who is out of their home for work, social, shopping or travelling. Because it is large, bold and noticeable with extremely creative options it will alert and hold customer attention.

It can be argued that it is the most cost effective form of advertising for the following reasons (most cost effective per 1,000 consumers):

• It reaches a vast amount of people and the exposure is constantly repeated. Adverts work on the ‘frequency principle’ as they often stay in the same place for periods of a month or more, people see and are exposed to the advert for a number of times.

• It is available to view 24 hours, 7 days a week, 12 months a year, therefore delivering your message over and over again.

• It can also reach rural and out of town populations by using billboard locations in strategically placed positions.

Potential advertisers should be aware that their advert is likely to be viewed from a distance of 100-500 feet, so the message should be simple and to the point. That is the crux of outdoor advertising!
